The swearing-in ceremony for delegates of the Sixth Legislature of ECOWAS held today, the 4th of April, in Abuja.

 

 

Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong was sworn in as one of the delegates representing Nigeria in the 1115-member Parliament comprised of Parliamentarians from the 15 member nations of Ecowas and will hold this position for the next four years.

 

The member countries that makeup Ecowas Parliament are; Benin, Burkina-Faso, Gabon Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone & Togo.

 

The ambition of ECOWAS is to promote Cooperation and integration and enhance economic stability in the West African Sub-Region

 

The Parliament, one of three arms of ECOWAS which also includes the Judiciary and Executive, strives to strengthen representative democracy in member Nations.

 

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by President Bola Tinubu, current Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority, President of ECOWAS Commission H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the Senate, HE Godswill Akpabio, along with other senior officials from member Nations.
