AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION: CROSS RIVER STATE GOVERNMENT RECEIVES DRAFT FOR THE CASSAVA POLICY DOCUMENT.

Cross River State under the Administration of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu is on the pathway to a total transformation as the rebirth process of Agricultural sector in the state is on course.

 

 

The Policy Consultants saddled with the responsibility of developing a draft for the Cassava Value Chain Development Policy have successfully submitted the draft policy document to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon. Johnson Andiambey Ebokpo for onward action.

 

Speaking during the presentation of the draft policy document, the lead consultant, Prof. Susan Ohen stated that after series of comments from stakeholders arising from public hearing, debates and validation workshop to further strengthen the various inputs raised by stakeholders, the document has come into fruition.

 

Ohen therefore, thanked the State Government for opportunity given them to serve in that capacity. she appreciated the efforts of the team and other stakeholders of cassava Value chain for their meaningful contribution towards the success of the assignment while praying to God for wisdom and the successful tenure of Governor Otu’s administration.

 

Receiving the policy document, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Hon. Johnson Andiambey Ebokpo KSM., stated that this will be one of the major milestones in the administration of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, adding that agriculture is a major contributor to the state GDP and Prince Otu’s administration is focusing it’s attention majorly on Agriculture to better the economy and lives of Cross riverians.

 

Ebokpo noted that “Cassava grows and survives virtually in all regions of the state. Certainly,with the availability of this document,investors shall be willing to invest in the Cassava value chain. Therefore, the document will not only show a clear road map towards completely exploring cassava value chain, but will also provide clarity to intending Investors letting them know that cross River state is ready for agribusiness”, and encouraging investors to take advantage of the opportunity to explore in cassava value chain.

 

The Commissioner added that to concretize the draft policy, the document will be presented to the Governor for review, after which it will be given a legislative backing from the State House of Assembly for better operational experiences.

 

The draft policy document was developed and compiled by Prof. Susan Ohen, Prof. Damian Agom, critical Stakeholders in the Cassava value chain sub sector as well as the Private Sector.
