Itigidi, Cross River State – It was a day of splendour, colour and heartfelt joy on Saturday, 13th September 2025, as the quiet town of Itigidi in Abi Local Government Area came alive for the Solemnisation of holy matrimony between Margaret Christopher Eka and Bassey Bassey Iya.
The couple exchanged vows before God and the congregation at the Full Gospel Church of God, Itigidi, in a spirit-filled service filled with hymns, prayers and blessings. As the newlyweds sealed their commitment with rings, the congregation erupted in thunderous applause, signifying the union of two families and the blossoming of a new chapter in love.
The celebration continued at the bride’s family compound, No. 8 School of Nursing Road, Itigidi, where guests were treated to a rich blend of cultural dances, music, delicacies and displays of tradition. The reception showcased the warmth and hospitality of the Eka and Iya families, with the colours of the day, emerald green, champagne gold and burgundy, painting the atmosphere with elegance and vibrance.
Speaking with EpistleNews, the groom, Mr. Bassey Bassey Iya, was visibly elated:
“Today is the happiest day of my life. Margaret is my answered prayer, my partner and my friend. I thank God for bringing us together and I promise to love, honour and cherish her all the days of my life.”
The bride, Mrs. Margaret Christopher Eka (now Bassey Iya), was full of joy as she shared her gratitude:
“I feel truly blessed to be walking into this new journey with Bassey by my side. He is kind, patient and God-fearing. I am overwhelmed by the love and support from our families and friends. My prayer is that God continues to be the foundation of our home.”
In a heartfelt moment, Mr. Elemi Bassey, elder brother of the groom who stood in place of their late parents, spoke with pride:
“Our parents may not be here physically, but I believe they are smiling down from heaven. As the eldest, it gives me joy to witness Bassey take this bold step into marriage. I urge them to always remember that patience, prayer and communication are the pillars of a lasting union.”
The bride’s father, Elder Christopher Eka, could not hide his gratitude:
“I thank God for keeping us alive to witness this union. My prayer is that Bassey and Margaret build their home on faith, respect, and the fear of God.”
Friends also expressed their joy, with Miss Elizabeth Bassey, a close companion of the bride, remarking:
“Margaret is a gentle soul with a beautiful heart. I am so glad she has found happiness in Bassey. May their marriage be filled with peace and blessings.”
From the soulful church service to the vibrant cultural displays, the wedding was more than a union of two hearts, it was a celebration of love, faith, family and tradition that left an indelible memory in the hearts of all who attended.
