LABOUR PARTY BOT DISSOLVES NENADI USMAN’S INTERIM NATIONAL WORKING COMMITTEE
✓ Says Committee Exceeded Its Mandate as NEC Moves to Reconstitute New Leadership

ABUJA — The Board of Trustees (BOT) and the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party have formally announced the expiration and dissolution of the party’s Interim National Working Committee (iNWC) led by Sen. Nenadi Esther Usman and Sen. Nwaokochka Darlington. The announcement was conveyed in an official communication addressed to the former interim leaders and dated 2 December 2025.
In the letter signed by Comrade S.O.Z. Ejiofor, Chairman of the BOT, and Comrade Salisu Mohammed, Secretary of the BOT, the party leadership stated that the dissolution became inevitable following the committee’s consistent failure to fulfil the mandate assigned to it more than a year ago.
“We hereby notify you of the expiration and dissolution of the interim National Working Committee (iNWC) of the Labour Party,” the BOT said.
“The statutory NEC of the party will meet in due course to constitute a new National Working Committee in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2022.”
The BOT recalled that the iNWC was inaugurated on 4 September 2024 and mandated to organise nationwide congresses and a national convention within 90 days, to elect substantive officers. According to the letter, the committee failed to deliver on these critical responsibilities even after more than 400 days, resulting in prolonged administrative stagnation.
Even more concerning, the BOT noted, was that after the NEC meeting of 18 July 2025 at Transcorp Hotel, Abuja, the committee was granted an additional 90-day extension. However, it once again exceeded the timeframe without achieving the party’s core objectives.
“This timeframe elapsed again on 17 October 2025 without achieving our party’s ultimate aim of fruitful participation in all elections nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the BOT stated.
“The overwhelming incompetence of the dissolved iNWC resulted in members’ plunging loss of faith and the unabated desertion of our party nationwide.”
The BOT therefore directed the former interim leaders to immediately cease all activities conducted in the name of the Labour Party and to hand over all party documents and property in their custody to the Secretary of the Board of Trustees.
“While thanking you for your contributions in the past, we wish you well in your future endeavours,” the BOT added.
The Labour Party is expected to convene a statutory NEC meeting shortly, where a new National Working Committee will be constituted to steer the party’s preparations towards the 2027 general elections.
