The Special Assistant to the Governor on Gender Mainstreaming, Hon. Utibe Abasi Bassey Duke, has been recognised with an award during the 100th Anniversary Celebration of the Nigerian Girl Guides Association.
This honour, she noted, reflects not only the recognition of today but also a journey that began many years ago when she was an active and devoted member of the Girl Guides.
Speaking after receiving the award, Hon. Duke highlighted the enduring influence of the values she imbibed as a young girl in the movement.
“The Girl Guides instilled in me discipline, a passion for community, a commitment to excellence, and the courage to always stand for what is right. These values have shaped the woman I am today,” she said.
She further expressed gratitude to the Girl Guides Cross River State for bestowing the honour, describing the recognition as both humbling and inspiring.
“I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Girl Guides Cross River State for this honour. As we celebrate 100 years of impact, growth, and empowerment, I pray that the next century will be even greater, one that continues to inspire generations of girls to lead with purpose and compassion,” Duke concluded.
The centenary celebration marks a historic milestone for the Nigerian Girl Guides Association, which has, for a century, fostered leadership, discipline, and service among young girls across the country.
