OBUDU PARAMOUNT RULER INAUGURATES INVESTIGATIVE COMMITTEE TO RECOVER STOLEN PUBLIC ASSETS, STOP VANDELISM AND FURTHER THEFT.
The Paramount Ruler of Obudu Local Government Area, HRM Utsu-Ukandi Felix Ukwudari, has inaugurated a Special Committee to investigate and recover stolen government properties within the LGA, following growing concerns over recent incidents of vandalism and theft, particularly the attempted theft of electricity transformers.
Speaking at the meeting held at his palace, on Saturday, HRM Utsu-Ukandi expressed gratitude to all attendees and emphasized that the committee was born out of a resolution passed during a Traditional Rulers’ Council meeting approximately 15 days ago. The key objective, he stated, is to form a formidable team to ensure the recovery and protection of government assets for the good of the entire Obudu Community.
The Committee is chaired by Hon. P.J. Ekunke with Udie Mike serving as Secretary. Other members include Mr. Paul Akoli, Mr. Emmanuel Utande, Miss Charity Ikpali, Hon. Lawrence Ishibi, Mr. Gabriel Odey Idiege, HRH Akinsheye Ugbe, HRH S.O. Olenye, HRH C.L. Ulem, HRH B.P. Ishoja, and Mr. Emmanuel Aben as well a representative of the Youth Council.
In furtherance, the Paramount Ruler provided the Committee with its terms of reference and directed that a comprehensive report be submitted to the Traditional Rulers Council and made public within two weeks. The terms of reference include:
1. Investigate the attempted theft of transformers and other reportedly missing government properties.
2. Verify the status of the recovered electricity transformers currently held by the police and ensure their prompt return to their original locations.
3. Liaise with the Chairman of the Local Government Council to obtain necessary support for their assignment.
4. Devise and promote strategies to prevent future attempts to steal or vandalize government property, while educating the public on the importance of safeguarding public assets.
All ongoing independent investigations are hereby placed on hold pending the outcome of the Committee’s findings. Committee members have been charged to discharge their responsibilities with diligence and integrity.
The public is urged to support this effort by providing relevant information that may lead to the recovery of public assets and the protection of those still in place.
This initiative was prompted by a wave of reports circulating on social media over the past two weeks regarding an attempted theft of electricity transformers. The situation sparked an emergency meeting of traditional and political leaders, ultimately leading to the formation of the committee on April 12, 2025.
Signed:
Mr Udie Mike
Secretary, Investigation Committee.
