LABOUR PARTY CROSS RIVER STATE CONDUCTS SUCCESSFUL ELECTION PRIMARIES FOR THE FORTH COMING LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS.

The interim leadership of Labour Party Cross River State conducted her party primaries on 10th October 2024 at her temporal Party Secretariat.

 

Members of the Party where seated an hour before the election primaries began.

The primaries where conducted following the screening of aspirants on the 8th of October 2024.

 

SCREENING OF ASPIRANTS

 

The Interim leadership of the Party led by Comrade John Ushie PhD had earlier set up a 5 Man Screening Committee comprising of; Hon. Sunday Ekpo as Chairman of the Screening committee, Sir Godwin U. Amoikwen as Secretary of the Screening Committee, Dr. Gabriel Akpeke, Comrade Cletus Amawu and Surv. Nkoyo Otu as members of the Screening Committee.

 

Members of the Interim Leadership of Labour Party attended to observe the process of the primaries as well as all party faithfuls.

 

In an opening speech, the Chairman of the Screening Committee, Hon. Sunday Ekpo after welcoming everyone, addressed the delegates and aspirants to play by the rule of the game. He appealed to aspirants not to make elections a do or die affair.

He assured them that God places everyone where they ought to be at the right time, further advising them that even if they do not win today, God has a different and better plans for them.

 

The Interim Chairman of the party, Comrade John Ushie PhD in his welcome speech welcomed party faithfuls to the primaries and commended their display of interest for the party. He charged the aspirants to be true members of Labour Party when they finally seize power.
He finally took time to highlight what the party stands for;
“Labour Party is a social democratic party and as a social democrat, the party is concerned with the welfare of the masses”

LABOUR PARTY INTERIM CHAIRMAN, COMRADE JOHN USHIE PhD.

He further warned them against copying members of other parties as he described them as bourgeois while the Labour Party remains dedicated to the welfare of the masses.

 

One of the Party’s Critical Stakeholders, Comrade Adjie Bonnie gave a speech urging the Aspirants to be fervent in prayers. He also urged the young ones to wake up and join the political movement to make a positive impact in the society as he assures them that this is the right time to make a change.

 

A motion was moved for the conduct of the election primaries by Hon. Prosper Asuquo and seconded by Comr. Akak Akiba of Calabar South Local government area, Cross River State.

The party primaries where successfully conducted by using the Ad-hoc delegates system.

 

CROSS SECTION OF LABOUR PARTY MEMBERS CASTING THEIR VOTES DURING PARTY PRIMARIES.

 

After the casting of votes, some of the Aspirants who emerged victorious where; Prince P. Awusha of Obudu as Chairmanship candidate, Abang Moses Awa of Buda ward, Boki as councillorship candidate, Okon Bassey Edet of Effanga Offiong Ward, as councillorship candidate for Akpabuyo, Bwora Francis Eni of Ikpaw ward as councillorship candidate, Akamkpa, Ugbe Elias Akwaagiobe of Urban ward as councillorship candidate Obudu, Osang Bernard Obi representing Buyia/Okubushi ward Boki as councillorship candidate, Otuson Godgift Akanu as Bibo Bumaji ward Boki as councillorship candidate and a host of other candidates.

 

A FEW SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES EMERGING FROM THE PRIMARIES

 

The candidates who emerged after the primaries were congratulated by Party faithfuls and all necessary documents were handed over to them as well.

Different Media houses were in attendance of the party primaries as well as delegates and official observers sent from various Agencies to ensure that the primaries  were peaceful and successful.
