The State Transitional Caretaker Committee (STC) of the Labour Party, Cross River State led by Comrade John O Ushie Ph.D., JP. paid courtesy visits on Friday to the Commissioner of Police, Gyogoon Grimah and the State Director of the DSS., Mrs. Roseline Izuagbe.
According to Comrade Ushie, the purpose of the visits is for familiarisation, partnership and avail both agencies the opportunity to know the true position of things as it concerns the Labour Party in Cross River State.
Comrade Ushie said, “we have come to intimate you of the recent decision of the Labour Party National Executive to put in place a Transitional Caretaker Committee (STC) across the 36, States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, hence the expiration of the Barr. Abure’s National Executive and that of the States in June, 2024.
“Our Party Constitution just like the Country’s (Nigeria) is tenure-bound for elective position. And any officer who have served in previous Executive both at National and State level can seek re-election only through the National Convention or State Congresses.
“But it’s unfortunate that Abure and his cohorts in some States don’t want to leave office, basically because of the pecks of their offices and a syndrome quite prevalent amongst our politicians.
“And in Cross River State, it isn’t different. Hence, Ogar Osim is still parading himself as the State Chairman and misleading gullible people and promising to hand them the party tickets to run for elections under the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
“Our terms of reference is to make sure we constitute Chapters and Wards Executives through consultations with all Stakeholders, continue the process of membership registration and mobilisation for ratification and reconcile where necessary.”
“It is on this notes that we deemed it expedient to come seek partnership and your support and it’s traditional that such interface is necessary,” he concluded.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, Gyogoon Grimah, welcome the STC Team and promised his maximum support to making sure that the right thing is done to forestall peace and order in the State and he advised that should they be any disagreement, let the Courts be approached to resolve any issue as he promised should any other group come, he will call the STC to his office to meet with the impostors, and vow to do the needful at all times.
“Let me welcome you all to the State Police Command Headquarters Office of the 44th CP. My service approach is silence, speed and surprise and that’s why at the shortest notice, you have my audience.
“It’s unfortunate that majority politicians allow personal interest override and becloud their sense of reasoning, anyway, we are humans bristle with emotions and sentiments.
“Institution is bigger than any individual and just like my office and any other, I will be here for a period of time and others will come take over.
“To be honest, we have been following every development and you are the group that have visited us. And should any other group come, we will invite you so that we talk and iron out the issue.
“Let us know when you are ready for your Congress so that all necessary measures will be put in place.
“I don’t think collectively we are sincere to ourselves. When did our problems started? And how genuine we are making efforts to solving them?
“If you are no where to do something, but you are somewhere you can do something. I want to advise against any form of thuggery, you should rather seek court interpretation as the only mechanism to solve political party discord.
“Please, do count on our support at all times,” he said.
On her part, the State Director of the Department of State Service (DSS), Mrs. Roseline Izuagbe, welcome the STC Executive to her office and the Command on behalf of Director General of the Agency.
“Let me welcome you to the Command on behalf of my Director General and congratulate all of you on your appointments as you’ve been found worthy to serve your party and wish your team, success.
“We are aware of all that have transpired, we are following the legal tussle as well. As usual, we value our stakeholders and will continue to engage and provide on our primary objective of security of lives and property.
“Our Service provision is assuring you 100%, we would be monitoring every development but would not hit up the polity unnecessarily but wouldn’t tolerate any attempt that will breach public peace.
“Let me finally congratulate you once again, and advice you reciprocate the confidence reposed on you to serve your party and humanity in your best ability for national growth, may God guide you all and protect us,” she said.
