Fmr. SSA to Gov. Ayade on Non-Indigene Affairs.
President Bola Tinubu recently invited governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to design and implement policies that prioritize all Nigerians and their needs.
The President, who received members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) at the State House in  Abuja states that one of the biggest challenges the ruling party faces was healing and unifying the country by ensuring a collective national vision and channeling energy and resources into nation-building.
A few weeks ago, the President also invited the 36 Governors including the Minister of Federal Capital Territory to the State House to specifically address critical challenging national issues.
The President said Nigeria is too blessed with human, natural, and material resources to be struggling with a dearth of quality infrastructure, education, and world-class healthy living and facilities.
Since Mr President announced the removal of Fuel subsidies during his inauguration, prices of commodities and infrastructures have skyrocketed far beyond the reach of the common man making living quite unbearable. To the extent that it has pushed citizens to embark on protests across the country while labour Unions like NLC and TUC gear up for an indefinite national strike.
The President through the meetings, challenged the Governors on the need to focus attention on areas that can add value to the needs of citizens. For instance, each state can prioritise its agricultural needs and development. States can place on the front burner, multi-faceted security issues and make it an agenda of government. That is exactly, what the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu is doing across the length and breadth of the state particularly, in Bakassi, Akpabuyo, and Calabar South Local Government Areas. These criminals have been given a run for their lives.
States also can calibrate the effectiveness and efficiency of their Price Regulatory Agencies with a mandate to curtail the excesses of greedy merchants who are inflicting hardship on the masses. But the cheering news according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio in Sahara reports states that each state Governor has received additional money to tackle food Scarcity and hardship facing Nigerians. Things will definitely get better if we can tolerate the present hardship a little.
On security, the President said the deployment of forest guards was being considered, with better training, modern technological gadgets, and weapons to strengthen security, and that the solid mineral and marine economic sectors will also be secured by special police.  This development can keep unwanted visitors in the forests and make it safe for the cultivation of food crops and other allied products.
This essay supports the clarion call by Mr. President on all the Governor’s and appointees to prioritise the needs of citizens. This will help calm the growing instability in the country.
