COMR. OKAFOR COMMENDS INEC FOR CONDUCTING A SUCCESSFUL GOVERNORSHIP POLL IN BAYELSA.

The National Coordinator, Grassroot Development Centre for Peace and Social Justice on Tuesday commended the just concluded governorship election in Bayelsa State calling it a success for the people and democracy.
Comr. Okafor made the commendation shortly after a press conference organized by The Coalition for INEC Observer Groups for Credible and Transparent Elections held in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
According to him “It’s quite commendable, INEC played a very profound role, the security did their best and members of the press also help in enlightening the people, the logistics arrangement was well coordinated. Thus, I will say the election was a success, hence this was an expression of the will of the people”.
Speaking further, the civic rights activist while commending the polls also called on INEC, the federal government, and other stakeholders to put in their best and stop the reoccurring incidence of violence, water accidents (boat capsize), and intimidation of people around the southern part of the State.
“We call on INEC to ensure they find a better and modern way of conveying election materials to Southern Ijaw areas where the population is very high”
He also urges the security agencies to do proper profiling of flash points across the State to enable them to nib any challenge in the bud as it occurs.
