Prime Progress an Abuja-based online news platform over the weekend trained Journalists on solutions journalism from a four pillars angle.
According to Johnstone Kpilaaka, Journalism feeds on attention and it is very important. Solutions journalism is one of the ways of bringing people back to want to read and listen to news.
Solutions journalism explains in a critical clear-eyed way how people solve widely shared problems. To go about solutions journalism, it has to start from your mind. When you ask questions, it is your first bold step into solutions journalism.
The four foundation pillars angel also known as ‘Anatomy of Solutions Journalism’ are;
Response.
Evidence.
Insights.
Limitations.
These four things are what make a solution story. You can’t have a solution story if you don’t find out what the problem is.
To get a solution story you have to work through those pillars i.e. The Anatomy Of Solutions Journalism.
To go about Solutions Journalism, you have to ask: What’s the problem?
Is anyone addressing it?
What have they done?
When these salient questions are answered, and your story connects with the Anatomy of Solutions Journalism then you’re good to go.
And in conclusion, solutions journalism shouldn’t be misconstrued as PR. Hence, the position by many is a mere misconception.
