.. .flood victims across the state receive items…
Following the flag-off of items under Special National Economic Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI) for distribution by the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, distribution has begun in earnest.
SNELEI is a Federal Government’s special intervention to assuage the impact of last year’s flood on victims across the state.
Recall that the agency carried assessment of the flood-prone areas and enumeration of flood victims since last year. Therefore, only enumerated victims, who have their slips, with passport attached, are eligible for collection.
Items being distributed include agricultural inputs, food items, and non-food items. Agricultural items are rice seedling, herbicides, pesticides, pumping machines, cassava stem, and yam seedlings, among others. The non-food items range from mattresses, buckets, detergents, and blankets to mosquito nets, while food items include rice, beans, seasoning cubes, and groundnut oil, among others.

The distribution is being manned by a 9-man team from the Federal Capital Territory, headquarters of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Against insinuations from the public that the exercise is being handled by the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), it should be noted that the current exercise is strictly an affair of the apex disaster management agency in the country, NEMA.
