Hon. Stanley Nsemo, Member representing Calabar Municipality State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA), has applauded the efforts so far undertaken by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Chief Victor Felix Idem, to address the illegal and multiple taxation in the Metropolis and across the State.
He made his position known through a Press Release and cautioned the proponents of the subject as anti-good governance and not a Political Party discretion but a policy of Government to enhance economic development and encourage commerce.
Find below, Hon. Nsemo’s Full Text:
I wish to commend the efforts of Chief Victor Felix Idem, the Honourable Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, Cross River state for his proactive stance on addressing the issue of illegal and multiple taxation, not only in Calabar Municipality but across our entire state.
It is important to clarify that Chief Idem’s actions are in line with the directives of the State Government to address this pressing concern that affects our constituents directly. The focus here is on resolving issues that burden our people and impact the ease of doing business, which is commendable.
As the representative of Calabar Municipality State Constituency in the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly, I stand for peace and the protection of my constituents from any form of tax injustice. In this light, I fully support Chief Idem’s efforts to streamline taxation processes and eliminate the challenges posed by illegal and multiple taxation in our local government area.
I wish to remind Chief Emmanuel Mbora, the APC Chapter Chairman/Caucus Leader of Calabar Municipality, that the responsibility of addressing issues within the Local Government Area falls within the purview of the State Government and its officials and not a Political Party here, the All Progressives Congress (APC). Chief Idem, as the Honourable Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, is executing his duties as mandated by the State Government, and this should not be viewed as inter-meddling but as responsible governance. Besides, this process will be done across various local government areas and with multiple parties and stakeholders (as such this should not be seen as a bias against Calabar Municipality).
In conclusion, I call on all stakeholders to collaborate with Chief Victor Felix Idem and the State Government to ensure that the issue of illegal and multiple taxation is resolved amicably, ultimately benefiting our Constituents and the business community in Calabar Municipality.
Signed: Hon. Stanley Nsemo, Member of CRSHA, Calabar Municipality State Constituency.
