GOV OTU INSPECTS ROAD CONSTRUCTION IN CALABAR SOUTH, ASSURES OF IMPROVED INFRASTRUCTURE.

The governor of Cross River State, Gov. Bassey Otu has undertaken an on-the-spot tour of ongoing projects in Calabar, including the construction of a 2km long road network at Nyong Edem in Calabar south.

Acknowledging cheers from the jubilant crowd who came out to receive the governor, Otu expressed satisfaction at the level of progress and quality of work done, maintaining that his administration was keen on ensuring the state gets the best in terms of infrastructural development.

 

According to the governor, his decision to visit the project site was to see things for himself to enable him have a first hand information.

 

“I came here myself to see the level of progress of this job because I wanted to see things for myself. We will be embarking on surprise visits like this to all ongoing project sites to ensure that constractors do not cut corners in order to maximize profit. We also want to ensure that the job is done according to specification in line with international best practices” the governor said.

 

Otu also assured of his administration’s resolve to improve road network across the state.

 

Earlier, Commissioner for Works, Hon. Pius Ankpo who conducted the State governor around said the 2km long, 9inch thickness concrete road was done according to specification and in strict compliance of the governor’s directive.

 

He assured that the project will be concluded on time so that road users can start enjoying the road.

 

While expressing their appreciation to the Governor, some of the residents said it was exciting to see the governor visit the area, noting that it was an indication that the state is in good hands.

 

“to see a state governor leave his office to visit us here in Calabar south is something we have never seen before. This is the first time a state governor will be visiting our street. As you can see, the residents are out here to receive him. We know he came to inspect the progress of work, but this visit is also very dear to us and we appreciate him for giving us a good road ” said one of the residents identified as Chief Ekpenyong Ibok.
