The House of Reps Member representing Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwarra Federal Constituency in the House of Reps took his ongoing Constituency assessment tour to Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The tour began with a visit to Ugah Ugah salon where the MP reconnected with his long-time barber Who the MP said offered him free services when he had no money during his University days. The MP after taking a clean shave supported his long-time barber’s business and promised to send youth to the salon for an internship before empowerment in barbing.
The tour then proceeded to the Obudu Dam where the MP went for an on-the-spot assessment of the facility to attain first-hand knowledge of how the project that was awarded to the facility was executed. Reacting to the state of the Dam, the MP expressed disappointment with the state of the facility, noting that there are enormous benefits that a functional Dam will bring to the Constituency. He said if the dam is fixed to its optimal use, it will tackle the challenges of water supply, irrigation, Agricultural productivity, and employment. The MP said Government is continuity, so he would stop at nothing to see that every Federal Government facility or project in the federal constituency is completed and fully functional.
The MP then proceeded to the Obudu Local Government Council where he interacted with the Head of Local Government Affairs (HOLGA) and the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). He thanked them for their support and promised to do his best not to let them down.
The Member proceeded to the Obudu Traditional Rulers office where he met with the traditional Rulers. The MP said he had come to thank the Chiefs and seek their collaboration. He noted that he would need the support of the traditional Rulers in his service to the people. The traditional Rulers assured the MP of their unflinching support and blessed him to go and drive down the dividends of Democracy. The meeting came to a close with condolence to the traditional Rulers over the departure of the reverend paramount Ruler, Uti JD Agba, and a minute of silence was observed in memory of the great monarch.
The tour came to its climax with a town hall meeting of the MP with stakeholders, religious leaders, youths, and Opinion molders at Obudu Civic Center. The MP took time to listen to all spoke persons from the ten wards of Obudu highlight their needs. Top on the discussion were the issues of Water, Electricity, feeder Roads, employment, and empowerment.
Responding to the people, Hon Peter Akpanke thanked the People for believing in him. He promised to do everything in his capacity to drive down the dividends of Democracy to the federal constituency.
“Your support in the last elections overwhelmed me. I sleep every day wondering why I received the level of love and support I got from you. I’m challenged by the belief you have in me and as your employee, I pray God strengthens Me to do what is on my mind to do for our people”
Chief Hon Peter Akpanke afterward visited Obudu market to inspect his ongoing water and toilet project where he was celebrated by women for keeping true to his words.
