Vice Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Senator Datti Baba- Ahmed has called on Nigerians to come out on May 29 to protest against the Inauguration of President-elect , Bola Tinubu.
May 29 had been slated for Inaguration of President-elect.
The LP Vice Presidential Candidate made the call today at a Coalition of Nigerians living in the UK Conference that took place on Monday, May 15, 2023.
Baba-Ahmed maintained that swearing in Tinubu would be unconstitutional and would amount to a civilian coup because Tinubu failed to satisfy the constitutional requirement of scoring 25% of votes in 2/3 of the federation “and” the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
It could be recalled that Datti Baba-Ahmed, had called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, to boycott the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, slated for May 29,
Baba-Ahmed insisted that swearing in a ticket that has not yet met constitutional requirements is tantamount to ending democracy.
The LP VP candidate said the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu was reckless to have issued a certificate of return to Tinubu.
He described the process that produced Tinubu as president-elect as “unconstitutional.”
Baba-Ahmed said, “Swearing in a ticket that has not met the constitutional requirements of the constitution is ending democracy. And I’m repeating it, whoever does not meet the constitutional requirements must never be sworn in.
“I’m repeating, swearing in anybody who does not meet the constitutional requirements of our country, you are engaging in an unconstitutional act. Mr. President, do not hold that inauguration. CJN, your lordship, do not partake in unconstitutionality.”
The theme of the UK conference is “Does Democracy Matter: Coalition of Nigerians Living in the United Kingdom as they tell the true stories about the 2023 election process and outcomes. What was Happening, What Happened and What Will Happen”
