Cross River State Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition, Chief Signor Omang Idiege, have Inaugurated the State Chapter of Voluntary Youth Organisations of Nigeria (VYO’s) at the State Youth House KM 5, Murtala Mohammed Highway, NYSC Secretariat, Calabar.
The Commissioner was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Samuel Egbala, who on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner, Inaugurated the Cross River State Chapter of Voluntary Youth Organisations of Nigeria (VYO’s).
“I bring you greetings from the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition, Chief Signor Omang Idiege, whom would have been here in person but due to exigencies of work, have directed me to represent him.
“Am sure you are all aware that the Commissioner is a youth at heart and quite disposed with everything that concerns youth development and will stop at nothing to build the youth and by extension, building the nation.
“He has asked me to felicitate with you for taking the bull by the horns in your quest to advance national rebirth of the youths, through a collective approach by identifying with your root; the Cross River State Chapter of Voluntary Youth Organisations of Nigeria (VYO’s) and by so doing, it’s has clearly shown your commitment and determination to serve humanity through volunteering, to bringing your God’s given talents to help society, move forward.
“What you have just done today; is a catalyst to building your future in the right direction in tenacity, resilience and courage. I challenge you all to begin to show leadership in your various organisations, and start engaging with the Government, and especially the incoming administration of Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu.
“This Inauguration is a credit to H.E Senator (Prof) Ben Ayade, hence, a reflection of one of his cardinal objectives to empowering the youths to become self conscious and championing their cause. In all fairness, we must give all credit to governor Ayade, for the emancipation of the Cross River State Youths in all sphere.
“And on this note; I hereby, Inaugurate the Amb. Nsikak Effiong, Cross River State Chapter Executives of the Voluntary Youth Organisations of Nigeria (VYO’s) today, Thursday, 11th of May, 2023, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
Speaking earlier, Comrade Dan Obo Jnr. Host and State Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), expressed his joy and commend the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development and Skills Acquisition, Chief Signor Omang Idiege, and the Permanent Secretary, Comrade Samuel Egbala, whom he described as ‘Colleagues of the Youths.’
“To us, today is history! We’re on the right track, and it’s been three (3) years we couldn’t find unity. And the current State EXCO of NYCN challenged herself. Hence, we can’t transcend without putting in place, the State EXCO of (VYO’s) Voluntary Youth Organisations of Nigeria.
“The beauty of what’s happening today is democracy. The Organisation have chosen their leaders without any interference and we must be commended for the part we’ve played.
“I want to assure us that, in the next three (3) weeks, we’ll be have a comprehensive record of all affiliates that makes up the Cross River State Chapter of Voluntary Youth Organisations of Nigeria (VYO’s), and will be guided by the Bye Laws.
“All I want to say is that; we’ll take advantage of the provisions in both the State and Federal Ministries of Youths to make sure we utilised to the fullest the opportunities provided for the youths.
“And finally, we should as an Exco thank H.E Governor Ben Ayade, for all he has done for the Cross River Youths, and by extension to the Ada Bekwarra II, for being there as a ‘Colleague of the Youth’ and not just only a ‘Friend of the Youth’ and my brother and Comrade Samuel Egbala, we won’t fail you all,” he said.
In his acceptance speech and on behalf of the newly Inaugurated VYO’s of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter, Amb. Nsikak Effiong, thanked all Stakeholders for the opportunity given to him and his colleagues at this point in time.
“I want to thank all Stakeholders for giving me and my colleagues to serve at this crucial time in our history; to us, it’s a call to service for humanity. And to whom much is given, much is expected.
“On my honour, I promise to bring to bare, incorruptible leadership, I’ll lead by example as a servant and pray God Almighty’s abundant blessings and grace upon this Executives,” he concluded.
Amb. Nsikak Effiong, is the State Commandant of the Man O’ War.

The Inauguration ceremony had in attendance dignitaries and including, Prof. Bassey Oben, of the Department of Modern Languages, University of Calabar, representatives from the Nigeria Red Cross Society, Government Appointees, Media practitioners and well over 15, Affiliates of VYO’s.
