Mma Odi, Executive Director, Emma Ezeasu Centre for Good Governance and Accountability, said that she has apologised to former INEC head, Maurice Iwu, and that Professor Mahmood Yakubu has replaced him and even broken his record.

Mma Odi said this in an interview with AIT during the Kakaaki program when she was reacting to the case of REC commissioner in Adamawa state, who announced Aishatu Bashiru Ahmed winner of the election.

Mma Odi said that the incident was shameful and appalling. She said she was concerned before now over election re-run in Adamawa. She said her reason was that, Fintiri was already winning with over 31,000 votes before they declare inconclusive whereas, the Kaduna governorship election that was announced did not even have up to 10,000 votes margin between the 2 leading candidates. She said same thing in Ogun state and Enugu.

Mma Odi added that Fintiri was still leading as at Saturday when the 10 local government result in Adamawa was announced. She said sadly, a REC officer who must have read electoral act, announced the result without any record and walk away.

Mma then said that Yakubu should sack any REC officer that is found to have compromised in any of the elections and if he can’t sack them, Yakubu himself should resign.

“I have even apologised to Maurice Iwu, have been calling him names since 2007, but Yakubu have actually replaced him and he has broken record.”
