An unidentified group of individuals in Adamawa State have forcefully stripped a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), whose name has not been disclosed.

In a video footage that was viewed by Daily Trust, several men were seen interrogating the elderly official.

One of the interrogators used a commanding tone to demand that the man tell the truth and promised to spare his life. Another person instructed the INEC official to put on his trousers, but the man only shook his head and muttered unintelligible words.

” If you tell us the truth, we will assist you, ” another interrogator said, as they mainly communicated in Hausa and occasionally in English.

In the background of the video, a voice could be heard saying, ” This is not the INEC REC. He is a national officer. ”

A journalist from Daily Trust managed to identify the high- ranking member of a major political party in the video.

According to the report, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who is the Police Public Relations Officer, did not respond to any calls or messages regarding the matter.

Earlier, INEC had expressed concern over the harassment of its national commissioners.

In an official statement, Barr Festus Okoye, a spokesperson for the commission, urged security agencies to ensure the safety of electoral officials.

The statement read, ” The commission is troubled by the mistreatment of its two National Commissioners who were sent to the State to oversee a peaceful and credible supplementary election.

” It is imperative that the Returning Officer, two National Commissioners, and other commission staff carry out their duties without any obstruction or interference. Any act of lawlessness or brigandage directed at the commission’ s officials or the process will not be condoned. ”

Daily Trust previously published a report about the declaration of Senator Aisha Dahiru, popularly known as Binani, as the winner of the election in Adamawa State by Mr. Hudu Ari, who serves as the Resident Electoral Commission (REC). The declaration was surrounded by controversy.
