The Honourable Commissioner for Health. Dr. Janet David Ekpenyong on Monday 16th January,2023 attended the ministerial briefing organized by the ministry of Information under the auspices of Hon.Eric Anderson Iso-Enangetta

 

Speaking at the briefing the Commissioner extolled and commended the good heart and foresight of the governor Sen.Prof.Ben Ayade, on appointing and saddling her with the task of coordinating and overseeing the affairs of the Ministry of Health as Commissioner whilst eulogizing the massive feats of support and interest the sector has enjoyed as a result of the high level of importance his excellency attaches to the state health sector

 

Dr. Janet Ekpenyong took out time to appreciate the gigantic and towering achievements of her predecessors Dr. Betta Edu and Dr. Mrs. Inyang Asibong the erstwhile Commissioners of Health as she spoke on pertinent issues that relates to ongoing interventions,executed and proposed programmes,funding and supports as well as partnership from foreign and Indigenous aides

 

Elucidating on the burning issues she assured Cross Riverians of the commitment of the state government under her watch in partnership with other related agencies to ensuring quality health care delivery to all Cross Riverians at little or no cost as this is the core focus of the health sector

 

She spoke on the approach and efforts of government in financing the health sector for easy access to schemes and services by constituents through the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS) which she noted that over forty thousand Cross Riverians are already beneficiaries through the AYADE’S CARE INITIATIVE thereby granting them uninterrupted access to quality health care delivery

 

She noted that the ministry is working assiduously to strengthen the logistic process in the sector which has hampered the free and timely access of drugs and other items for health workers across the state to enhance service delivery through the ZIP LINE PROJECT

 

As part of government efforts in meeting up with prevailing demands and current realities Hon.Janet reiterated the commitment of his administration to the yearnings of health workers welfare as she applauded the current Gov. Ben Ayade’s led administration for expressly and graciously approving the employment of nurses,midwives and health practitioners to boast the dwindling manpower of the sector as well as full implementation of the CONMESS salary pay structure which will see health workers in the state earn the same pay package as their contemporaries at the federal to curb brain drain and encourage brain gain

 

Dr.Janet was pleased to reel out myriads of achievements by the ministry of health under this administration which includes;

 

Cross River State awarded as the second 2nd ranked state in the country on Tuberculosis and Malaria implementation success chat

 

Awarded the best COVID 19 VACCINATION state

 

Holds the record of 85% immunization coverage rate post COVID 19

 

Reduced ranking as one of the highest placed state on HIV/AIDS chat to 2.0 with ongoing efforts to attain the targeted 0% rate

 

Imminent Commissioning of the best hospital facility in Nigeria the Obudu German Hospital with state of the art equipments and ever first of it’s kind

 

The Honourable Commissioner called on all well meaning Cross Riverians to join hands in supporting the efforts of government through this administration in delivering quality health care services even as she thanked the Ministry of Information and Orientation alongside the Commissioner for health Hon. Eric Anderson Iso-Enangetta for creating a portal for Cross Riverians to be properly briefed and informed on programmes and achievements of government.
