Addressing electorates at the different communities, LP candidate for Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency Mr Alvin Ochang charges the electorates to ensure they visit INEC offices in their localities to collect their PVC’s even as INEC has promised to take the PVC’s to the pooling units for distribution.
According to him ” this is the time to show your commitment to your nation by ensuring you collect your PVC’s because this is the only way to achieve a new Nigeria of our dreams, let me tell you, with your PVC you are now the king, on like what it was before where ballot box snatching was the order of the day, with the new electoral act power has been given to the electorates”.
He lamented that, the Paramount Rulers and their chiefs who are the custodians of the communities live in abject poverty and wonders how welfare of the Chiefs has degenerated to the extent that there are paid as low as N7,500 for first class chiefs and N2,500 monthly for the regular chiefs despite the hash economic realities.
He said” in the past the government used to furnish houses of parament rulers, buy and maintain their cars, they were so respected that they could get jobs for their subjects but today the reverse is the case otherwise how do you explain a situation where a first class chief will be riding on a commercial motorcycle? It is very sad and something has to be done urgently to change the status quo”.
On the hash economic situation in the country, Mr Alvin Ochang said Nigeria now needs people like his principal the presidential candidate of the labour party Mr Peter Obi who left N75b in the coffers of Anambra when he was leaving office as the state governor, he rejected houses, pension, cars offered to him after leaving office, adding that Mr Obi was not owing teachers, contractors, pensioners when he left the office as a governor thereby setting a standard for those who genuinely want to serve their people. He said those contesting under the labour party has the characteristics of Mr Obi and cannot afford to fail the people if given the mandate.
He called on the chiefs, parents and mostly the youths to educate those who are not yet aware of the danger inherent in making the mistake of voting the wrong candidates as Nigeria is at the verge of giving way.
On his part, one of the Chiefs, whose name cannot be mentioned for security reasons lambasted the former governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke for single handedly imposing the current Governor Professor Ben Ayade on the people of the state, this singular action he said has brought untold hardship on the people, sighting the inability of the governor to pay gratuities to retirees as the worst thing that can happen to any civil servant who has put in either 35 years in service or attained the mandatory age of 60 years.
He said the people want to try the labour party as an alternative to APC and PDP and hoped that the current bad experience will not repeat itself again.
He urged the Labour Party candidate for Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency Mr Alvin Ochang to ensure that something is done when he gets into office to ameliorate the suffering of the the chiefs and the communities at large.
They pleaded with Mr Alvin Ochang not to decamp to other parties if given the mandate under the labour party as that will make him abandon the manifesto of the party that brought him into power.
The chiefs at every point blessed the candidate and wish him success in the forth coming general elections.
In their remarks, youths and women who appeared to be on the same page asked for youths empowerment, job creation and provision of social amenities in their localities.
