Ahead of the general election in 2023, the Labour Party which has been at the forefront of the recent political revolution in the country is set for yet another major positive political narrative by engaging with major team players in a town hall meeting slated for Saturday, the 30th day of July, 2022.

This position was conveyed to the candidates of the party in a meeting with the State Working Committee in Calabar by the State Chairman of the party, Amb. Ogar Osim. Addressing the candidates, the chairman explained that, the decision of the party to conduct the town hall meeting was a directive from the national which is very strategic as it will afford the stakeholders the opportunity to interact and share ideas in promoting the party in the state through meaningful engagements.

On the recent altercation with Organized Labour in the state, the chairman stated that it was actually a non-issue and an internal family misunderstanding which has been resolved, and are back and better.

He commended the positive energy in the party made possible by the emergence of Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential flagbearer of the party. The message of, “take back your country” through the “Obidient Movement” is very clear and it’s making the opponents to shiver. In the state, the calibre of candidates we have is also unsettling our opponents, and we must leverage on this to pass a strong message to Cross Riverians nay Nigerians.

In a swift reaction and towards unbundling the burden of making a presence in the state, the Senatorial Candidate of the party for the Southern Senatorial District, Rt. Hon. Daniel Effiong Asuquo said that, the effort to do this is collective. “I am very impressed with the set up in the party, and I am particularly touched by the people’s oriented initiatives of the party. We must leverage on this and make a strong statement of intent. The party is said to be structureless, structures are not alien but its people who share the same ideals, and in politics, it’s for the purpose of winning elections, bringing democratic dividends etc to the people.

Nothing appeals to me more than having the people make the decision in our party. It gives them a sense of belonging, it’s partnership which has been my position ever since because everyone is involved and very committed to drive the agreed vision and initiatives. We must however show commitment and be very spirited in all our engagement. We must show capacity, we must show teamwork, unity and a high sense of purpose.

Other contributors and candidates of the party who spoke include, Hon. John Ifere and Rt. Hon. Dominic Aqua Edem called for proactive involvements of all the stakeholders and candidates to make a statement in the state to drive the vision and mission of the Labour Party.

Key event for the Town Hall Meeting will be the presentation of certificate of return to the candidates of the party in the various positions contested for.

According to the Party Chairman, the event will be very impactful and colourful. From the decision arrived, the town hall meeting will be holding at the main hall of the Monty Hotel and suites for stakeholders especially the leaders of support groups across the 18 LGAs.
