The FUSION196, a socio-political group in support of good governance across divides for the good of all and not only in Cross River State but Nigeria in general; today in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River State carried out a One Thousand Man Walk for Voter’s Sensitisation from 11/11 and ended up at the Efio-tte Roundabout.

Briefing newsmen at the commencement of the Walk, the Director General Dermot Akpoke, said the importance of the Walk cannot be over-emphasised but a necessity which time has come.

“Today epoch event is a collective initiative and it’s not a party thing but for everyone that needs good governance and wants true and really better change in our Cross River and Nigeria, to come out and be part of the ongoing Voter’s Registration exercise and take opportunity through INEC.

“We’re here today to sensitise the people to come out in their numbers and go get their PVC. Hence, had I known is not an option. The power to decide the way to go is in your hands. And for those of us that are members of FUSION196, we’re deliberately too passionate about good governance and that’s why we’re out today to ensure that we enthrone seamless change we desire in Nigeria.

“We want good governance and as such, we’ve galvanizing the public to go out, get registered and collect their PVC’s just like I believe, we’ve all had ours. We don’t want anybody to bear the burden of blame. Let’s make maximum use of the opportunity of the window provided by INEC.

“FUSION196, will carry out this sensitisation across all the Senatorial Districts in Cross River to drive home the importance of the project. And as the name implies, we’re in all 196 Wards of Cross River and dissemination of information to educate Cross Riverians isn’t a herculean task but simply to ignite our structures to convey our message across the people with the light of speed and what you see today, is virtually what we’ve been doing behind the scene. We’re not going to stop, until every eligible person in the State has gotten his or her PVC.”

The Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the event, Mr. Patrick Etta, who corroborated the Director General’s vision and mission of FUSION196 said the Organisation is basically to educate and inform Cross Riverians across the 196 Political Wards of the State, of the essence of good governance and what the people and State stand to benefit when the right people are elected into government.

“FUSION196 is a strong political support group that will champion and project candidates with capacity, character and contents that will eventually bring about best governance for the people of the State.

“It’s very necessary to educate our youths and bring them with speed on the way forward with the necessary information available; the voters registration which is the exercise we have kicked off, the importance and need of going out to register and have their PVC.

“Our target is to swell the ranks and make sure the youth participate thereafter in the general elections. It’s worthy to inform our youths not to wait until another window opportunity to be provided by INEC after June 30th as assured by Commissioner Festus Okoye, though tentatively that the exercise will be extended,” he said.

Speaking earlier, Comrade Joe Agbor, Convener and Public Relations Officer of FUSION196, intimated that, publicity-wise, the Organisation has done much to drive its vision, mission and object of this current exercise hence, the needful has been done.

“We cover the 196 Political Wards of the State and membership also cut across and for us we’re basically concerned about genuine and robust advocacy for the enthronement of good governance in our dear State. We’ve pushed that drive and basically too, as part of our strategic vision and mission we’ve very much been involved with voters’ awareness, sensitisation and the first call is exercising their franchise and advocating for worthy ambassadors with leadership traits, understanding the critical components that make a good leader.

“So for us, we’re deliberate to advance good leadership and we believe that it starts from the tender age with young people inculcating the spirit of leadership at an early age and we don’t take away mentoring.

This will translate to us having good leaders in Cross River and by extension, Nigeria,” he concluded.
