THIS IS NOT WHO WE ARE-EDEM DARLINGTON

The 2023 General Election in Cross River State approaches with very scary and dangerous narratives in our political history as a people.
Let it be on record that some politicians are right now drumming the evil drum of ethnicity and tribal sentiments for us to dance. They do this for their own selfish aim and thirst.
But let us not forget that this is not who we are. We are a people, far more civilized than what they want to make us look like. From Obaliku to Bakassi, Cross Riverians love themselves. For you can not love others unless you have sufficiently loved yourself.
They continue to incite the Ejagham against the Efuts. Stir the Efik man against his Bette brother. On social media, these manipulators have paid their ignorant agents to write about how the Efiks do not like the Atams and how the Atams detest the Efiks. But we know that this is not who we are.
We, however, are not unaware that those politicians responsible for this rhyme of war, have been marked to be flogged by the spirits of our fathers.
We have never been divided in our history as a people. But these selfish individuals are currently whispering satanic chords so we can all dance to the death.
We must all stand up and sternly resist the demonic attempt to disunite us as a people. The first two lines of our state song captures clearly, “Land of our birth we pledge to thee, Our love and toil in the year to be”
Attempts to cause disaffection between our people is pure witchcraft and we must not permit such.
Purveyors of evil and destroyers of destiny. May their days be as the night and may their path be slippery.
Let us not forget that when two brothers fight to death, it is strangers that inherit their wealth. May we never fight ourselves to death and allow strangers inherit our common wealth.
This is not who we are. Though tribe and tongue may differ but in brotherhood we stand.
Any Cross Riverian that have decided to join this dangerous bend, is an enemy of the state and of our people.
Dear Cross Riverians, let us arise and unite against all agents of division in our state. The current narrative trending on various social media platforms is not a good development for us..
Our security agents must immediately swing  into action and do the needful by arresting agents of destabilization in our society because, a wood already touched by fire is not hard to set alight.
This is an attempt to set our state ablaze and it must be treated as a serious security concern.
No one calls a dog with a whip in his hand. If we allow politics to divide us, it will take more than a long table to unite us again.
Those calling for hate amongst brethren, must understand that when you marry a monkey for his wealth, the money goes but the monkey remains. The ugly trend that may remain with us should not be regretted if we fail to arrest this situation now.
God bless Cross River State.
