I wish to heartily congratulate our Christian brothers and sisters on the successful completion of the Lenten Season and the celebration of Easter. We thank the Almighty God for giving you the strength to go through the all important spiritual exercise. May the blessings of this period help to renew our country and place it on the path to sustainable peace and development.
This Easter is being celebrated at a time our country and people are in distress. Nigeria is in the firm grip of terrorists, insurgents, bandits and kidnappers. Families are in mourning and agony. Terrorists are holding many Nigerians captive. Nigerians can hardly travel to see their loved ones as is customary during festive periods. The economy is not faring better. Our faultlines are sharpening and widening. The Federal Government appears directionless and confused. But it is not a hopeless situation. There is a pathway to a better future.
I call on our dear countrymen and women not to give up hope. Let us place our challenges before the Almighty God. Let us ask for his guidance. Let us ask for strength and courage to enable us face our challenges squarely. We must take our destiny in our hands. We must be innovative, creative and courageous if we are to overcome our challenges.
We face an existential threat and therefore must adopt a bipartisan approach. All Nigerian patriots must join hands together to pull us back from the brink. Restoration of peace and stability across Nigerian communities is key to breathing life back to our local economies, the Nigerian economy and attracting Foreign Direct Investment. I call on the Federal Government to convene without delay, an inclusive ALL NIGERIA SECURITY SUMMIT. The summit will take a critical look at the prosecution of the war against terrorists, insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and other forms of criminality and fashion effective strategies going forward. The idea is to fully mobilize the citizenry to participate fully because we are in a state of war.
I urge our Christian brothers and sisters to continue to sustain the spirit of love, sacrifice, forgiveness and resilience which Jesus Christ espoused. Use this period to show love to fellow Nigerians, especially those of other faiths. Forgive those who have wronged you. Put smiles on the faces of the poor, the weak and the vulnerable. Let us work together to renew and rebuild our country and infuse it with the spirit of human kindness.
Happy Easter Celebrations!
H. E. Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
