A lecturer at the Department of Linguistics,University of Abuja, Dr. Taher Fayez on Thursday said the multicultural and diverse ethnic groups in Nigeria is a blessing to the country.
Dr Fayez who stated this in an interview with journalists during the 6th Combined Convocation ceremony of the university held at the main campus,Keffi,averred that the country is blessed with diverse ethnic nationalities and religious bodies coexisting in peace.
According to him “Nigeria is blessed with different tribes such as Igbo,Hausa,and Yoruba among others and religious groups as Christians and Muslims living together in unity without any challenge. This is very good ”
Farez who is an Egyptian residing in Nigeria, while expressing his joy as a new Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) graduand from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi encourage young Nigerians to acquire education to enable them aspire to any height in life.
He also expressed his discontentment over the management of graduating students,well wishers, friends and family members during the convocation ceremony, noting that for a university with such a standard handling its graduands and visitors in such a dastardly manner was a setback and a bad reputation for both the school and the State.
“Look at how people were being pushed at the entrance, some even lost their belongings which is very bad, some people sat under the sun for a very long time and security person do are very unfriendly with people that came from far and near to celebrate their worthy sons,daughters and friends”
“For a university that is aspiring to be a leading place of learning in the world acting in such a manner is a cause for concern,hence I urge its management to look into those lapses very intently and find a lasting solution to the issue”
Asked what message he is taking home,Dr Fayez said his take home message is that Nigeria is a good country with diverse ethnic groups and religious bodies that coexists together and that its a good place to be having spend a long time in Abuja-Nigeria.
The event was graced with dignitaries as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Nasarawa State governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule, among others .
