A Doctor of Philosophy graduand, Mrs. Bademosi Tinuola Ereola (PhD) on Friday urged parents across the country to send their children to school, noting that education is a weapon of liberation.
Dr Ereola stated this in an interview with journalists during the 6th Combined Convocation ceremony of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK).
According to her “the best thing any parent can give to his or her child is education. There are so many things you can access as an individual when you’re educated and there are also many things you can be deprived of when you’re not educated. So it is very important that we give our children the best gift of life that will guarantee their success in life and that is education”
“Look at me, today I’m here because I’m educated, almost everything I’ve got in life is as a result of my awareness and that comes with education, that’s why I’m soliciting and calling on all parents and intending parents to give their children a key to the future by giving them the best education they can afford”
Also, parents should pay more attention to their female children because they are the ones that will take care of them when they are old. I’m not saying this because I’m a woman but is a fact and the truth; though is not as if the male children don’t have the heart to take care of their parents when they are old but its because men carries a lot of responsibilities of raising a family, paying school fees, house rent,or building home for the family, in-law issues and many more and these won’t give them time to think of their aged parents, but women whatever they have they are always thinking of their aged parents. This is why its good to bring them up in a proper way so that they will reap what they sowed”
The banker also call on governments at all level to look into the issue of jobless graduates rooming the street in Nigeria maintaining that if not properly address will in turn create an insecurity that will give rise to instability.
“Today people come from far and near to receive their honours and some to celebrate with their loved ones, but how will they feel after one, two, five to ten years they don’t have work,it makes mockery of both the certificate you receive and the education you acquire. Even as I believe that people should look for what to do,government need to create a good and enabling environment for young people to invest as well as creates jobs”
Ask on what area she want the university to improve, Dr. Ereola said the State government and university management need to improve on the infrastructure and e-leaning positing that every university aspiring to be world class must be up to speed with their virtual programmes and learning.
Highpoint of the event was presentation of awards to outstanding students.
