As the country gear towards massive vaccination of eligible adults and the actualization of herd immunity cum 2022, Cross River State is already taking the lead as it has expanded it’s vaccination sites to  markets, worship centres, banks and recreational facilities both in the Metropolis and in other Local Government Areas of the state.
Leading a team of dedicated and passionate health workers to  some markets in Calabar Municipality and Calabar South Local Government Areas, the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong said the idea was to decongest traffic in health facilities and to encourage more people to get vaccinated.
Speaking to some of the traders and other market users, Dr Ekpenyong said, the difficulties and discomfort experienced through the use of Nose mask and the observant of other Covid19 preventive protocols can only become a thing of the past, if all citizens cooperate with government in the acceptance of Covid-19 Vaccines.
She said , she is encouraged by the huge turnout in facilities and during other outdoor activities stating that, Cross River State Primary Healthcare Agency will continue to move and engage strategic bodies in orderr to achieve 100% coverage..
She assured Cross Riverians of the safety of the vaccine noting that, all vaccines under her watch are in the safest and most potent state, hence the need to dispell fear from their bodies.
“Cross River State is one of the leading states as far as Covid-19 Vaccination is concerned, we have recorded huge turnout since the first week of the exercise in all of our designated health facilities across the 18 Local Government Areas.
As a means to reach out to more people, we have today decided to set up a temporary post here in Watt Market to get traders who may not be opportuned to go to health centres because of their busy schedule, I must say, the turnout is huge.
I want to assure all Cross Riverians and residents that our vaccines are safe, reliable, effective and they have remained in the most potent state since they were transported here, we all should go out and dispell all forms of rumor and lies spread by mischievous individuals discreditng the value of the vaccine.
With all of the discomfort we suffer wearing face mask and observing other Covid-19 preventive guidelines, we must work together to ensure that vaccination becomes accepted by all, so that in the coming months, we can walk freely and live our normal lives like we are used to”.
So far , over 200,000 eligible adults have been vaccinated in the state with no record of death or severe adverse effects recorded, the government is therefore hopeful that, in the coming future, more citizens will volunteer themselves out to be immunized thereby protecting themselves and those around from the dreaded Covid-19.
Get vaccinated, visit the nearest health facility, be on the look out, a team might be in your neighborhood.
