The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has promised strengthening of humanitarian support services to refugees in Cross River State
The UN refugee agency had supported the Cross River Stare Government to distribute goods, food, medicine, tools, and farm implements to the refugees from Cameroon .
UNHCR head of sub-office Ogoja, Mr Tesfaye Bekele who applauded Cross River State Government for giving them a level playing ground in the discharge of their developmental and humanitarian services in the State, promised to work in synergy with the cordinating Ministry of international Development Cooperation (MIDC).
Bekele also assured of support in the cordination of other line MDAs to deliver their mandate in line with the vision and mission of the organization to the people of Cross River State..
He said there have been challenges of starvation, dislocation, and shortage of medication despite the support and intervention by the State Government on the Displaced Persons in Cross River.
Recieving the UNHCR team, the Commisisoner for International Development Corporation, MIDC, Dr INYANG Asibong, reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Prof Ayade in providing succor to the IDPs across the State.
She explained that the population of the refugees have been overwhelmingly growing and assured the team of the Government’s readiness to partner with them in playing a role in humanitarian services and other areas as requested by MIDC as the cordinating partner.

Roufou Makou, Head of field office, UNHCR; and Mr
Katono E.H, UNHCR field officer.
