As the third wave of Covid19 continue to spread across the globe causing unprecedented deaths and affecting economic activities, although faced with strong resistance from unverifiable sources, vaccination has remained the surest means of minimizing Covid19 related deaths .
It is on this premise that the Cross River State Deputy Governor and his wife presented themselves for Vaccination, as they received their second jab of the Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine signalling a complete dosage and guaranteed immunity against the virus.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after being vaccinated, Professor Ivara Esu urged Cross Riverians to disregard fallacious messages on social media discreditng the efficiency of the Covid-19 Vaccines as he further called on influencers and strategic leaders to lend their voices towards wide vaccine acceptability.
In response to claims that vaccination guarantees full immunity and put an end to the observance of laid down protocols, state Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu said, it is important to keep adhering to safety guidelines such as the mandatory use of face mask in public places, regular hand washing under running water, maintaining social distance as well as promptly reporting any Covid-19 related symptoms to Appropriate authorities.
She assured Cross Riverians of an even Distribution of the vaccines to all Local Government Areas as well as to reach the targeted audience in all phases of the exercise.
On the success recorded in the first two phases of the vaccination execise, Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong said, much mobilization were carried out across the state through the support of some strategic leaders as well as the health promotion team.
“This is leadership by example, today we have the Deputy Governor and his wife complete their two doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine, it is a boost to our social mobilization strategy especially an endorsement from a renowned Professor of science.
Aside the Deputy Governor and his wife, the Obong of Calabar and members of his traditional rulers council have all taken theirs , as well as some political and traditional rulers.
For us in the health team, we are very excited to control Covid169 spread in Cross River State by setting up a worthy taskforce team headed by the state Commissioner for Health.
So far we are pleased to see so many Cross Riverians come out to be vaccinated, our people have been receptive and that is why we are being recognized as one of the state’s doing well and have recorded about 100% coverage based on the number of vaccines received”.
It will be recalled that Professor Ivara Esu and his wife had in June 2021 received their first jab of the vaccine with close Supervision, and with no severe adverse effect recorded, they both bacame eligible for the second dosage.
The state Primary Healthcare Agency therefore call on Nigerians who were vaccinated over four weeks ago to return to any Primary Healthcare Centre around their for their complete dose before the end of the first phase vaccination exercise which ends on the 9th of July 2021.
