Cross River State has migrated from the famed Other People’s Money (OPM) to Intellectual Money (IM) and now Green Money/G-Money (GM).
Ordinarily, this is the best time for citizens to benefit from the government money ritual orchestrated by the Governor’s ingenuity. We have factories that have spanned up to four years from incubation/construction time till now without producing anything worthwhile.
Arguably, apart from Garment Factory, no other government acclaimed industrial revolution has birthed anything substantial. The thirty something ‘indoorstries’ only reminds us of the then popular primary school classic ‘Eze goes to school’. The import of this book lense credence to the fact that although successive students read the same story, the author didn’t elect to write a follow-up novel to keep us updated with the fruit of Eze’s scholarship.
Ayade’s government will go down in history as one administration that exerted more energy in creating hysteria and hallucination rather than pushing a deliberate developmental agenda for the good of Cross River State.
A lot of friends outside the State have reached out to me to request for discounted rice from the hyped CRS rice revolution. I feel ashamed to tell them that the cost of rice is higher in the State than most other states without a known history of rice production.
As a businessman, I would have been excited to be a proud distributor of the long expected CRS Noodles and Chicken from the State poultry farm (Calachika) during this lockdown, abi  lockout. By now Calapharm would have been a beehive of activities and probably a national centre for the production of anti COVID 19 drugs. Sustainable jobs would have been created so that while other States are crying and begging, we would have been playing the big brother role like United States of America during the Second World War and China in the ongoing COVID 19 era.
Unfortunately and very unfortunately, despite the stupendous Industrial potentials replete in the State, we are now leading the pack of States who are cap in hand begging for relief from the Federal Government and other donor agencies.
It is against this background that I make a patriotic plea to His Excellency, Sir Benedict Ayade (KSJi) to rise up to the occasion by immediately setting up an Economic Team with a mandate to look inwards by deploying all intellectuall arsenals to put his industrial capabilities into full use. This is the only way we can still sing Alleluia while the COVID 19 thrives.
